The power of presence in my life

In today’s blog I am going to focus on the following:

  • Presence and patience in my life for my mental health

Disclaimer:

None of this should be treated as professional mental health advice. As with my podcast, social media and any other materials I produce on topics around mental health, self esteem, confidence and personal growth this is me sharing my own experience as an individual, working with a coach, being formerly a coach and other unnamed individual stories (unless permission gained to share their name). I am not a qualified mental health professional. Please seek professional help where appropriate to do so.

Today has been a pretty great day, I feel pretty happy 🙂

As I’ve had a pretty great day I find it important to take note of what was happening what was it that made it feel like a great day. Not necessarily the external things that went on but the internal things I did completely within my control.

Why do I think that’s important? Well because if I can start doing more of the things that make me feel good I think that’s a pretty good thing to be doing. Of course there are going to be external events out of my control, but with my own actions and knowing what shifts my energy and mood I ca begin to feel better.

So today I noticed the following:

  • Went to the gym and did a weight workout
  • Planned the day for success in detail the night before – although a couple of things did shift
  • Had some good communication with people I like speaking to
  • Went for a long walk
  • Listened to an audiobook I really enjoy
  • Overcame a challenge at work

Looking at the above I took away a theme for myself – these are all things I am doing right now in the present. When I note harder days it’s almost like I’m resisting my life now and what is going on hoping for a magical future with no problems to show up. Particularly that was a challenge many years ago for me wishing I was in dreamland.

Embracing patience and being in the present significantly has helped me in my life, I don’t do it everyday but today I found I did. So I thought it vital I’d document is and share it with you. My message today is to stop waiting on things to change, have a vision and goals absolutely but do what you can every day and enjoy the process. If something really can’t be enjoyed in the present then think about how you can change or remove it from your life altogether.

As I remember reading in The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle ‘now is the only time we have’ I want to embrace that in my life more, both adding more enjoyable things and for the challenging things that are require break them down and tackle them head on as much as possible.

Thank you for reading as we go into a long weekend here in the UK.
