November 2018: Young Callum with Borderline Personality Disorder

In today’s blog topic, I want to discuss the story and age of my main character Callum. In my last book: ‘My Unreal Real World’, Callum is ten years old, yet that book is aimed at a young adult audience. In this book, Callum is thirteen years old and the story is aimed at a young adult audience.

The reason for having a main character younger than the age of the reader, is so that they gain an understanding of the character before moving on to the second book. I want the reader to empathise with Callum and understand what he has gone through before reading my upcoming book, featuring him as a teenager.

My latest book features lots of challenges facing a teenager who is having a difficult time at school. However, of course, in Callum’s case, his life is even more challenging. I won’t go into too much more detail but for those of you who enjoyed the first book, I will keep you updated on the second book’s progress in these newsletters.

By the time I write my next blog, I will have returned from my trip to America and we will be approaching Christmas.
