How To Change The Way You Think – Winning Mindset

The news and social media are contaminated with negativity. That is why I don’t watch the news and if there is something I genuinely need to know or do I will ask someone. I also minimise social media usage, apart from networking and posting messages I feel are key to helping others.
Taking too much on these can really impact the way you think and in a negative way. I remember being on a date with a girl and I said ‘I don’t watch the news’ she looked at me surprised and asked ‘Really??’ with a stunned look and then a curiosity as to why.
I was more curious as to why someone would watch something they had no control over (in most cases) that causes them to feel negative.
Stopping these negative sources are one way to change the way you think but there are also others. So today’s blog is focused on thoughts and mindset.

Fixed v growth mindset

‘Change your thoughts, change your life’ Wayne Dyer.
So true, but to change your thoughts it’s not a case of battling them out in the head but rather taking actions or exercises to rewire them.
First of all let’s start with two types of mindset: fixed and growth
Fixed mindset – is typically someone who is set in their ways, limits themselves and does not believe greater achievements are possible for them even though they may want it.
Growth mindset – is someone who believes in growing themself constantly and constantly pushing their limits greater.

How do we change our thoughts? Some quick tips

Write down good quality questions.
Next time you catch yourself in a bad state notice what kinds of questions you ask, or think back to bad past experience.
“Why does this happen to me?”
“Why do I get no luck?”
Those are victim minded questions and are complete different from:
“What can I learn from this?”
“What can I do to feel better?”

By shaping our questions, our brain looks for different answers and therefore this plays a massive impact on the way we feel.
Writing these down will play an even bigger impact pen to paper too. Writing with pen to paper allows deeper cognitive processing and formation of neural pathways than typing does.

Visualising
The power of visualising really embeds a strong message in the subconscious when it is done on a regular basis (i.e every day or night). The brain doesn’t always know the difference between fake and reality. Therefore by visualising that amazing next day or even greater life. Your brain is focusing on great things and this can really help us feel better.

Deal with worries
Flushing worries away does no good. They only come back stronger. The next time you have negative thoughts find some space to acknowledge them, write them down and be with them. Progress starts with truth, our heads can get confusing otherwise. It may be uncomfortable at first but by working with these thoughts, you can increase that self awareness and then progress with actions to help these thoughts.

‘It’s this or something better’
This quote can really help promote better thinking. It is having the acceptance things will go wrong but are teaching us lessons for something greater coming along. I’ve had rejections in different areas of life but then when something better came along I truly realised why. Now when something doesn’t go well I ask ‘what is this teaching me?’ Connecting to the spiritual side of this can really help.

Conclusion
So changing your thoughts is the right way to go for a better life. This might take a bit of work but retraining the mindset and the way you think will really pay off against life’s challenges. It’s important to note that we can’t think or feel amazing all the time but changing your thoughts and mindset in these ways will allow you to think positively the majority of the time.
