This follows the dark story of My Unreal Real World, as Callum continues a challenging life, but this time as a teenager. Callum is in a new part of the country with his family, but is now facing a difficult family home, time at school and his borderline personality disorder is a day to day battle he faces. To make matters worse there is a dangerous man on the loose out to get him and Callum wants to uncover a huge mystery in his life. Callum’s strength has grown with age but will it be enough for his battles in his latest journey?

Why I wrote this book:

I wrote the first book of this sequel My Unreal Real World at a request from a friend, I decided when writing that first book that there was more of a story to tell about Callum. Callum’s perspective as a teenager needed to be shown to people and his battle in life with borderline personality disorder, where many more challenges are faced in those years. Having educated myself on borderline personality disorder from my friend’s initial request I wanted to use another fictional story to educate more people on awareness around borderline personality disorder.

This is a darker story of a young boy who suffers borderline personality disorder, thought to be caused from trauma from the very early few years of his life. Callum is only ten years old and lives with his lovely adopted family but Callum has everyday struggles with life and describes this from his own account through the book. Eventually though some of Callum’s worst fears and anxieties become a reality. This will be a hard challenge for Callum to overcome, but how will he handle it?

Why I wrote this book:

I wrote this book following a request from a friend. My friend unfortunately has experience of the mental health disorder so requested that I write a story to highlight awareness in this. I felt privileged that someone was asking me to write a book for them. I therefore used my imagination combined with lots of research to convey a character at a young age with borderline personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder tends not to be diagnosed until people are in their twenties, so because of this I show early symptoms in the character who is not officially diagnosed at the age of ten. I decided to focus on the first-person perspective so the reader could also relate to the main character and begin to understand what he is going through.

Edge of Perfection

Sam the fifteen year-old boy is an extremely talented and fortunate individual. Sam works hard for everything in his tennis career and academic life and that is why he is on top pretty much all the time. Sam is such a perfectionist though and anything not 100% brilliant can get to him. Sam then realises there may be a solution to actually being perfect, that there may be a perfect potion out there created many years ago by an evil lord. Sam is prepared to risk his life to find this potion and from Sam’s point of view you will go on this adventure with him.

Why I wrote this book:

The title of this book actually came to me before the planning of the story. Previously I have been called a perfectionist myself and sometimes that can actually be more harming than good. Perfection is something nobody can actually achieve despite how great they may be and as a result can cause negative self-image. It is great to have high standards but nobody is perfect. I therefore wanted to write a story around the theme of perfection in an adventurous story.
